30 Nominations for the Fourteenth Round of the Pro Futura Scientia Programme

Twenty years after its initiation, the Pro Futura Scientia programme still proves to be an attractive path
for promising young scholars on their way up the career ladder. In the current round of nominations,
30 scholars - proposed by 16 universities in five countries - are now competing for the Pro Futura XIV
Fellowships. Among the candidates are 13 women and 17 men, working on a broad range of subjects.
The fields represented are primarily from the humanities and social sciences, but, in some cases, also
touching upon the natural sciences.

As in previous years, the nominations have been received from universities both in Sweden and abroad.
This time, the list of nominating universities includes the universities of Cambridge, Copenhagen, Oslo
and Turku, as well as twelve Swedish universities. Approximately 25% of the nominees also have affili-
ations to other universities/organisations than the university nominating them. The additional affiliations
are found in Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden and
the United States. The truly international range is a result of the universities being encouraged to propose
researchers not only from their own university but also from other universities and/or countries, but with
an intended future association with the nominating university.

After the usual extensive selection process, some 15 per cent of the nominees will eventually be admitted
to the programme. The final decision regarding the appointment of the Pro Futura XIV Fellows is expected
to be made in the early summer of 2019.

----------
The Pro Futura Scientia Programme for early career scholars, set up in 1999 by the Swedish Collegium
for Advanced Study (SCAS) and Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (the Swedish Foundation for Humanities
and Social Sciences; RJ), aims at providing optimal conditions for promising scholars in the humanities
and social sciences and to give them the chance to pursue curiosity-driven research. More than 50
scholars have been enrolled in the programme since the start.
